Borgkila or Filttossn – where the people of Karis have laughed, cried and danced for over 100 years
At the community house Borgkila, or Filttossn’, as the house is locally known, people gather for everything from parties and choir rehearsals to lectures. Just a stone’s throw across “Stationsbackan” from Karis railway station, we open the doors to the terracotta-coloured house. Welcome in!
Premises and equipment
Borgkila is an excellent venue for arranging gatherings of various kinds. It is popular to organise christenings, children’s parties, birthday celebrations, weddings and memorial services at Borgkila. During the week, activities such as yoga, dance and choir singing take place. These activities vary from year to year. Outside, there is a large yard that can be used when needed. Day camps for children or courses such as birdhouse building, or other themed gatherings, are also recommended.
In recent years, Borgkila has undergone extensive renovation. The building has a large and functional kitchen as well as tableware for a full house. Accessibility has been a key focus: a modern wheelchair ramp, a hearing loop system, suitable sound equipment, and four newly renovated toilets, one of which is a large accessible toilet. During the renovation, the building’s history, style and colour scheme have been carefully considered.
The hall allows for up to 240 people. For seated dining, tables can be set for a total of 120 people, and if a dance floor and buffet tables are needed, a recommended maximum is 90 people.

Weekdays / hour: 20 € – meetings, children's parties, etc.
Weekends / hour: 30 € (Fri–Sun)
You must have been a member for at least 1 year to be eligible for member benefits.
Cancellation fee. If a booking is cancelled without a valid reason later than one week before the booked date half of the rental fee will be charged.
Parking
Approximately 10 cars can park in the yard. More parking is available along the road. On weekends the parking lots of the nearby school and daycare center can be use

Cleaning
In connection with the booking, technical information about the building and the expected cleaning are reviewed. Appropriate cleaning equipment is available. Cleaning is not included in the rent but can be negotiated for an additional cost.
Local transport
A bus stop is located approx. 50 m from the house on both sides of Tammisaarentien. The train station and Karjaa travel center are approx. 900 m away. The walk over "Stationsbackan" takes a maximum of 15 minutes. From Karjaa station, trains run about once per hour to Hanko, Turku, and Helsinki.
